Coronavirus cases in South Carolina continued their recent surge. New cases have now exceeded 300 for four straight days in a row after not reaching that threshold once previously. This is a problem and shows we opened too soon. All told, there are now over 12,000 confirmed or presumed positive tests since health officials began tracking the spread of the virus in early March.
For comparison purposes, a total of 292 South Carolinians died during the 2017-2018 flu season, according to SCDHEC – and that was a “severe” season, according to the agency.
